Methodists saddened
By Pope's death

METHODISTS in Singapore have expressed their condolences to Roman Catholics on the passing away of Pope John Paul II on April 2.

In a letter dated April 4, 2005 to Archbishop Nicholas Chia, Bishop Dr Robert Solomon wrote: "We are deeply saddened by the passing away of Pope John Paul II. His life and ministry have inspired not only his worldwide flock in the Roman Catholic Church but also millions of others who have seen in him a life that was spent for God and man.

"At this time of grief and loss, when your earthly shepherd has gone to be forever with the Great Shepherd, the Methodist community in Singapore wish to express our deep condolences to you and your flock. In the midst of the grief, we can also rejoice in a life that was well-lived. May God continue to bless His church and help all to continue in His will."

MWS Flag Day
on May 21

THE Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) will hold its Flag Day this year on May 21.

Thousands of people the MWS serves - the sick and frail, the elderly, the disadvantaged families, children and youth - will be relying on your support and generosity.
Every dollar counts and helps to defray MWS' operating deficit of more than $3 million at its nursing home, home for the destitute, family service centres, children and youth centres, and home hospice care. It also gives out bursary awards.

The MWS is appealing for donors as well as volunteers to sign up as flag-sellers.
