TANAH MERAH Country Club
was the setting for this year's BB Charity Golf Tournament. A
perfect day of sunshine greeted the BB Old Boys and their guests
as they came to play a round of golf and at the same time do their
bit for the BB.
The generous spirit of those present was evident from their willing
hearts and open wallets. The ambitious target of $100,000 was
easily met even before a single ball had been hit.
Old Boys, including Mr Khoo Boon Hui, Lt-Gen (Retd) Winston Choo
and Mr Sim Kee Boon, were present to lend their support for the
event which was in aid of the BB21 Development Fund. The BB21
Development Plan hopes to reach out to every school in Singapore
by 2010.
A spokesman said: "We have already made good progress towards
this objective as eight new companies have been launched just
this year, bringing the total strength of the BB in Singapore
to 7,000."
The many prizes included a Lexus GS300 for those lucky enough
to sink a hole-in-one. The first prize of the challenge trophy
and a TaylorMade r7 driver was won by Mr Michael Loke, who overcame
a field of more than 150 participants to emerge triumphant.
Other notable mentions include the tournament director, Mr Ho
Chee Nen, who came in 8th , Lt-Gen (Retd) Choo, who came in 10th
, and Mr Sam Tan, Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Charity Golf,
who finished in 12th position.
The day was capped by a dinner for all the weary but jubilant
golfers. It was a time for them to trade "war stories"
from the course and also to do just a little bit more. A watercolour
painting by Winston Oh and a photo by Russel Wong were up for
auction during the dinner.
An Old Boy, Mr Tan Hup Thye, donated more than $3,000 in addition
to taking part in the golf tournament. He was moved to donate
generously to the BB because, he said, the BB had changed his
life.
