
MRS ANNABELLA CHRISTIE DORAISAMY
(picture in centre), wife of the late Bishop Emeritus Dr T. R.
Doraisamy, passed away on Jan 27, 2004 at the age of 80.
She was the daughter of Mr J. D. Christie of Seremban and studied
at the ACS Seremban where she was active in the life of the school.
Completing her studies in 1940, she married the future Bishop
on July 12, 1941 and narrowly escaped the Japanese Occupation
of Singapore, and spent the intervening years at Nagercoil, Tamil
Nadu, where her husband had been born.
Returning to Singapore after the war, she prepared to teach by
taking the Normal Certificate course. She taught at Fairfield
(Methodist) Girls' School from 1957 to 1960, and then at Anglo-Chinese
Junior School (Barker Road) from 1961 to 1979. She also served
the Church as President of the Tamil Provisional Annual Conference
(TPAC) WSCS from 1968 to 1973.
Mrs Doraisamy is mourned by her four children, Dr Daphne Prema,
Christine Padhma, Pauline Heima and Michael Rabindran, and seven
grandchildren.
