Methodist schools do not use AWARE programme

MEMBERS of The Methodist Church in Singapore have been assured that none of our Methodist schools has ever used the Comprehensive Sexuality Education programme designed and run by AWARE.

The assurance was given in a brief letter jointly signed by Bishop Dr Robert Solomon; the Rev Dr Chong Chin Chung, President of the Chinese Annual Conference; the Rev James Nagulan, President of Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference; and the Rev Dr Wee Boon Hup, President of Trinity Annual Conference.

The letter, dated May 7, 2009, which was addressed to all pastors and church members, said:

“Dear fellow Methodists

The Comprehensive Sexuality Education programme designed and run by AWARE in some schools has brought about some controversy and concerns recently. This is to confirm that none of our Methodist schools has ever used this programme.

We are committed to ensure that what is taught in our Methodist schools does not contradict with our Christian values.”
