JUST a year after the
successful launch of ACS (International) Singapore, another school,
ACS (International) Jakarta, has been added to the ACS family
of schools.
This is yet another milestone in ACS history as ACS exports its
brand of education beyond the shores of Singapore.
As planned and in line with the Singapore Government's move to
encourage education providers to export their services, ACS has
teamed up with Sekolah Tiara Bangsa to establish ACS (International)
Jakarta, a co-educational school for children between the ages
of two and 18.
ACS (International) Jakarta will
embrace fully the ACS brand of education to nurture the leaders
and global citizens of tomorrow. It is working very closely with
ACS (Independent) and ACS (Junior) to benchmark the ACS standards
that encourage intellectual growth, develop spiritual growth and
tolerance, recognise the importance of community, and continue
the ACS tradition of excellence, commitment, service and loyalty.
Mr Tan Wah Thong, Chairman of the ACS Board of Governors, said
the expansion of the ACS brand of education abroad is not a money-making
venture though it is in line with the Singapore Government's recent
move to encourage education providers to export their services.
"We are driven by the same
sense of mission that the founder of ACS had in setting up a school
here in 1886," he added.
Mr Daryl Forde, who has a long association
with the Methodist (now Uniting) Church and schools in Australia,
is the Director/ Principal of ACS (International) Jakarta.
Married with three adult children, his teaching career included
spells at the Universities of Melbourne and Sydney, a College
of Higher Education in the UK, and more than 20 years at Wesley

Baccalaureate Coordinator, Head of Senior School and Head of the
Humanities faculty. He was also the principal of International
School (Sydney), the founding Principal of the American International
School in Australia and the Consulting Principal for the Australian

ACS (International) Jakarta offers a full range of academics from
pre-school to university entry. The programmes will be similar
to those provided in ACS (International) Singapore. Also offered
are the Indonesian curriculum and examinations for those who wish
to enter an Indonesian university.
Situated next to a major toll way in East Jakarta 15 minutes'
drive from Pondok Indah and Cilandak in South Jakarta, the new
S$20-million campus spreads over five-and-a-half hectares. Its
facilities are world class and designed specifically for the needs
of children in the 21st century.
Besides more than 30 general air-conditioned classrooms and specialist
areas for computing, science, languages, art, music, design technology,
dance and theatre arts, there are two lecture rooms, an auditorium
for full stage productions or meetings, five meeting rooms, counselling
offices and a chapel.
The sporting facilities include two all-weather basketball courts,
eight tennis courts of which four are under cover, three football
fields, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. An indoor sports
facility is also planned for construction in the near future.
In addition, there will be an early childhood centre and playground.
