PROFESSOR Michael Hawn, a distinguished
musician and scholar, will be giving a series of lectures on "The
Theology of Congregational Songs and Worship" at Trinity
Theological College this month.
He will also be conducting three special events. They are:
"A Hymn Festival" (free
admission) at Trinity Theological College Chapel on Jan 10, 2007
at 11.30 am; "One Bread, One Body: Strategies
for Worshiping in a Diverse World" at Kampong
Kapor Methodist Church on Jan 13, 2007 from 2 pm to 4.30 pm, registration:
$10 per person; and "Let the Children
Sing!" at Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church
on Jan 7 and 14, 2007 from 1.30 pm to 3 pm, registration: $200
per choir.

Well known as a clinician on the subjects of children's choir,
cross-cultural worship, global music and congregational singing,
Dr Hawn is Director of the Master in Sacred Music Programme at
the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University.
He has studied church music in many countries in Africa, the Caribbean
and Latin America, as well as East Asia, the result of which was
a global collection, Halle Halle: We Sing the World Round (Choristers
Guild, 1999) and Gather into One: Praying and Singing Globally
(Wm. B. Eerdmans, 2003).
A frequent contributor to church music periodicals in the areas
of church music education and hymnology, Dr Hawn has published
more than 200 articles and edited several books.
He also founded and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors
of the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas (1996-1998).
