Longest serving Trustees Secretary of MCS dies

 

THE former Secretary of the Trustees of The Methodist Church in Singapore, Mr Wong Ha Hee, 74, passed away on Nov 24, 2003, having served the Methodist Church for many years.

He was elected Trustees Secretary in December 1984, an office he held until December 2000, thus becoming its longest serving incumbent.


Mr Wong was the youngest of three children of the Rev and Mrs Wong Dong Sing of Sitiawan, Perak and from an early age was an active member of Foochow Methodist Church, serving as choir director and Chairman of the Local Church Executive Committee (LCEC).

His distinguished professional career began as a science teacher at Anglo-Chinese School in Singapore, then as a civil servant in various government ministries, notably the Income Tax Department. He then left to join Price Waterhouse as a tax consultant in 1970 where he remained until his retirement in 1985.

Mr Wong is survived by his wife, Mdm Ling Uk Ing, five children and 10 grandchildren.
