400 turn up at new Sengkang MC's
first service
DELIGHTED Sengkang Methodist Church (SKMC)
members turned up in droves at the inaugural service at the church's
new premises on Dec 1, 2002.
Members, young and old, their friends and Chinese Annual Conference
(CAC) leaders - all numbering close to 400 - sang songs of praise
with gusto in thanksgiving and celebration of the completion of
the new church building at the junction of Anchorvale Road and
Anchorvale Lane.
The Rev Khoo Cheng Hoot, the CAC President, reminded the congregation
that SKMC's motto is "Go Forth", and they must therefore
"go forward" and serve the residents of Sengkang with
the love and instructions of God.
He said that the people in the area were like "sheep without
a shepherd
they seek a life free of trouble and problems".
"What can we offer them?" he asked in his sermon entitled
"God's Way, Men's Way".
"We can share with them God's love and grace. We can also
serve them and help to fulfil their needs. But in all that we
do, we must remember to do them not just with our own human planning
but more importantly, to do so with God's wisdom and instructions.
"It is not by might, nor by power, but by the Holy Spirit
that our mission in Sengkang will succeed," he added.
The one-and-a-half-hour service closed with the serving of the
Holy Communion, after which the congregation adjourned for a time
of refreshments and fellowship.
After the service, a beaming Rev Chng Siew Sin, Pastor-in-Charge
of Sengkang Methodist Church, told Methodist Message: "God
is so great because He has fulfilled every single one of all His
promises to His people.
"He promised to deliver us to Sengkang in good time, and
today we are able to worship Him and celebrate in this beautiful
church because He has kept His promise."
