Memorial Service for 2 CAC stalwarts
THE CAC paid
tribute to two of its women stalwarts when it held a Memorial
Service for Madam Huang Kuan Eng and the Rev Tan Phek Geok on
the second day of its 27th Session at Foochow Methodist Church.
Madam Huang passed away on July 13, 2002 at the age of 89. She
first served as a pastor at Foochow Methodist Church in 1943.
She then served in Malaya before returning in 1967 to Foochow
MC where she retired from active service in 1973. She continued
to serve the church as a volunteer worker after that.
At the Memorial Service, her younger sister, Madam Huang Ing Eng,
78, gave an eulogy. Later, she presented a cheque for $1,000 to
the Sengkang Methodist Church Building Fund in memory of her sister.
The Rev Tan passed away on Oct 18,2002 at the age of 93. The first
woman pastor to have served in Singapore, she served Paya Lebar
Chinese Methodist Church for almost 65 years.
Mr Ong Heng Kok, Local Church Executive Committee Chairman and
Lay Leader of Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church, paid tribute
to her.
The Rev Goh Aik Hiang, District Superintendent (City-West) of
the CAC, led the congregation in a prayer for family members of
the two pastors.
Bishop Emeritus
K. T. Wong then led in a prayer for the family of the late Bishop
Emeritus C. N. Fang.
Bishop Emeritus Fang, of The Methodist Church in Malaysia, passed
away on May 5, 2002 in Seremban. He was 77 years old.
