Bishop Dr John Chew to be
installed as Anglican
Archbishop of S-E Asia

THE Rt Rev Dr John Chew Hiang Chea (right) will be installed as the new Archbishop of the Province of the Anglican Church in South-east Asia at St Andrew's Cathedral on Feb 5.


The Most Rev Datuk Yong Ping Chung, the retiring Archbishop, will officiate at the Installation Service.


Bishop Dr Chew was elected the Archbishop at an extraordinary meeting of the Synod of the Province of South-east Asia on Nov 25 last year.

As Archbishop, Bishop Dr Chew will oversee the Anglican work and mission in the Diocese of Kuching, Diocese of Sabah, Diocese of Singapore and Diocese of West Malaysia, and in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, with a population of about 450 million.

Bishop Dr Chew was previously the Principal of Trinity Theological College (TTC) before his election as Bishop of Singapore. He is currently the Chairman of the TTC Board of Governors.

He is also serving as the President of the Singapore Anglican Community Services, President of The Bible Society of Singapore, and President of the National Council of Churches of Singapore.
