Singapore's second oldest
Methodist church
TAMIL Methodist
Church at Short Street celebrated its 118th Anniversary on Sept
25, 2005. Being the second oldest Methodist Church in Singapore,
the members felt very blessed by God for the work done through
this church among the Tamil-speaking people.
Bishop Dr Robert Solomon shared the anniversary message entitled
"God's Healing Community" from Acts 2: 37-47 where he
likened the church to being a hospital. Like a hospital, which
provides services to meet the physical needs of the sick and needy;
we, the members, need to minister to the spiritual needs of each
other.
Among the highlights of the celebration was a time of recollection
of the growth of Tamil Methodist Church by Miss Christine Tambyah,
the Chairman of the Local Church Executive Committee (LCEC).
One distinctive feature of the church's growth through the early
years was the vision of the church's forefathers who were instrumental
in planting six other Tamil Methodist churches in Singapore.
Like all joyous occasions, friends, well-wishers and members were
treated to a sumptuous lunch at which the young children and youths
cut the anniversary cake together with the Bishop.
Singapore's oldest Methodist church, Wesley MC, kicked off its
120th Anniversary celebrations with a Combined Service on Feb
20 this year.
On Aug 14, Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church celebrated its
116th Anniversary with a Combined Service which also marked the
80th Anniversary of the building of its premises at Telok Ayer
Street.
