Writers' workshop enriching: Participants
By MARY NG
MS FLOYD JONES, Co-ordinator
of the Upper Room international ministry, conducted a Writers'
Workshop at Methodist Centre on Feb 10, 2004. Participants found
it "an enriching and inspiring session".
Among those who attended was the Rev Khoo Cheng Hoot, President
of the Chinese Annual Conference, which organised the workshop.
A pastor who attended the workshop commented that some of the
pointers given by Ms Jones for writing devotions have helped him
to be better equipped in the preparation of his sermons.
The participants have also benefited much spiritually as each
of them was given some time to reflect on God's Word and link
the experiences of their lives with the scripture passage read.
Each participant was challenged to write a short devotion within
a time frame. At the end of the session, a few shared their inspired
devotions. Some were deemed quite good.
The workshop has created in me an awareness to listen to God every
moment and be ready to take down notes of what God is speaking
to me daily wherever I am.
One of the lessons learnt is that good devotional writing helps
people make a connection between their lives and what God is doing
in the world.
It is our hope that God will raise up more local writers for devotional
materials. May God continue to inspire us!
