John Wesley's sermons, journals
to be translated into Chinese
THE World Federation
of Chinese Methodist Churches (WFCMC) is to translate eight volumes
of the Bicentennial Edition of The Works of John Wesley into Chinese.
A Working Committee comprising representatives from Hong Kong,
Taiwan, the Chinese Annual Conference (CAC) of Malaysia, Sarawak
CAC and Singapore CAC has been formed to take on this ambitious
project.
The WFCMC aims to translate and print the selected five volumes
of sermons and journals in three years and the other three volumes
in another two years.
John Wesley,
Father
of Methodism.
The Communication
Committee of the WFCMC met in Taipei in 2002 and decided to translate
eight out of the 36 volumes of the Bicentennial Edition of The
Works of John Wesley.
The Wesley Heritage Foundation
has agreed to subsidise the project. It also proposed to invite
the Rev Dr Ting Gah Hing to be the editor.
This project will definitely benefit
not only the present generation of Chinese-speaking Christians
but also those in the future.
The Working Committee met on Dec
30 last year in Singapore. Present were the Rev Khoo Cheng Hoot,
Singapore CAC President; Mr Ng Sze Yuen, Chairman of the WFCMC's
Communication Committee and Vice-President of the Hong Kong Methodist
Church; the Rev Dr Ting, who has agreed to be the editor; Mr Tan
Wee Pin, Chairman of the Singapore CAC Board of Communication;
and the Rev Chua Ooi Suah.
Mr Ng, who is the Executive Editor,
will co-ordinate the work with Mr Lam Yau Cheung, as the Crafting
Editor.
